1:1 Session: Standing Up
Description
Standing Up is a movement-based session designed to develop one of the fundamentals for surfers and anyone else who needs to 'stand up'.
The purpose is to enable you to move from prone to standing with ease and ensure that when standing you are balanced, relaxed and ready to tackle whatever is ahead of you.
The reality is that many surfers have been taught, or developed habits, that make this fundamental movement difficult, risky or results in a sub-optimal position once standing. These problems only compound in more challenging waves, as surfers age or when you've been inactive prior to a surfing session or mission.
The benefit is to be able to be move from lying to standing on your board, in the water faster, more easily, reliably and with confidence. This will make a difference if you're wanting to level up your skill and confidence, are preparing for an upcoming mission or just want to make more of your time in the water.
In practice, this session will introduce the review the fundamental physics and physiology, introduce basic steps and components, and provide some additional exercises that (if practiced) within 10 days can dramatically improve your pop-up.
The choice of movements is customised based on your surfing level, type of board and self-diagnosis (submitted prior) and observation of how you move at the start of the session.
Optionally, a recording of the session can be made and shared to guide your practice and later assess the difference the training makes.
Format
This session is best delivered in 60 minutes with 1-3 participants.
While in-person is preferred it can be delivered online with the right camera setup (high and wide field of view).
