These safety precautions are provided to be read, understood and followed as a condition of participating in a 1:1 session or workshop with Thalassio.
Safety Precautions
- Not all exercises are appropriate for all people. Any exercise or movement, including those taught here, may result in injury.
- To reduce the risk of injury, never force or strain or overexert yourself during exercise or movement. If you experience acute pain or discomfort during the movements, stop immediately and consult your doctor.
- If you are menstruating, you should not practise inverted poses, back bends, or vigorous standing poses. Do not practise twists or any abdominal tightening poses if you are pregnant.
- Other special cautions may apply to individuals with specific health issues. For that reason, you should consult your doctor to find out if special restrictions apply to you.
- This training is provided without any warranties or guarantees of any kind. You are practising/performing these exercises at your own risk of injury.
- In saying this, most movements (especially Qi Gong and Tai Chi) are performed slowly without any sudden movement so the risk of injury is greatly reduced, if not eliminated.
- In interactive exercises with a partner, it is both participants responsibility to use explicit communication AND implicit/non-verbal communication to share any injuries, sensitivities, seek consent and moderate/accomodate/avoid movements that put your partner at risk.
Practice Guidelines
- Always make sure of adequate ventilation in your practice area.
- Make sure you wear appropriate loose comfortable clothing. Take off tight clothing, waist belts, watches, rings, jewellery, tight shoelaces, and tight shoes.
- Only perform the movements that you are able to perform comfortably.
- Do not practice in scorching sunlight, rain or extreme cold. Avoid draughts and wind. The temperature of your body should remain comfortable.
- Do not force the breathing during the exercises. Use long, slow, quiet breaths.
- Avoid practice in areas that could have loud sudden noises (like doors slamming, phones ringing, etc).
- Practise in a place where you feel safe and free from disturbances.
- If you feel lightheaded, sit down and rest.
- If you perspire profusely, stop the practice.
- Relieve yourself before practicing.
- Do not practise when you are hungry or very full.
- Do not practise under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
